Hey everyone. I just recently bought a ZHP coupe and so the time has come to let my E36 M3 go. This was my baby for a while but slowly the rust got to her and it got less and less worth keeping her in good cosmetic condition. Mechanically I've taken care of everything to keep it running. I've taken long trips with it, she runs strong. I'm going to be as honest/detailed as I can be. If all you want is the motor, I can't pull it, but we can work something out to bring the price down, like if I kept the arc8s or something. Asking $3000 OBO. PM me and I'll give you my email or phone number; feel free to ask for pictures or anything else.
TL, DR: Silver on dove coupe. Car has a salvage title and rust in the body. Engine is strong and well maintained. Quite a few extras. If you want to pull the engine or part it, you could make some money, but I don't have the time or location to do it myself.
I bought the car in 2010 at 134k (I think), it had a salvage title from a few years prior. It is now at 168k miles, I have daily driven it for the last 5 years, and tried to take care of it, though cosmetically it became less and less worth it. I have almost all the receipts for work I've done. The stuff listed below is from memory so there might be more (but not much).
Maintenance done/upgrades/pros:
-Cooling system was replaced, including Stewart pump
-AC and serp belts
-Headgasket done (Elring, not VR); head was hot tanked, decked (barely) and check for cracks
-All other gaskets except the oil pan done- VCG, timing chain cover, VANOS, intake, exhuast etc (when I did the HG I basically pulled the bay apart and replaced everything)
-Injectors cleaned and flow matched
-Timing chain guide
-Starter (OEM Bosch, threaded)
-Battery
-ICV cleaned, intake boots and hoses replaced
-Tie rods, control arms, endlinks, FCABs (The purple poly FCABs)
-Front struts
-RTABs, AKG poly (the street ones, forget the number though)
-Rear struts and mounts, rear endlinks
-Clutch job- JBR lightweight flywheel with M5 sprung hub disk, M3 Pressure plate, steel pivot pin, OEM TOB
-Shifter linkage bushings (though I think it's worn again)
-Pilot bearing and RMS
-Flex disk/guibo
-Diff and trans fluids
-Oil is "german castrol" the 0w30, brake fluid if you care is ATF super blue/orange (currently the orange variety)
-Precat O2s, cam position sensor, couple of wheel sensors.
-Custom M stitched shift boot, brake boot, brake handle and arm rest from rallyroad.net
-ZHP knob
-Microsuede headliner, pillars, sunroof and parcel shelf
-CD43 with GROM aux and BT
-Euro headlights (Bosch I believe) with aim control, city lights wired
-Brake calipers were sanded down and painted black (however pass front has since been replaced due to a stuck piston)
-Brake pads are Cool Carbon, fairly new (warranty replacement last summer)
-Just redid the hood release cables and mechanism
-Arc8s 17x8.5 square, hyper black
Stuff that is broken/cons:
-Rust: both rear wheel wells and on the passenger side along the trim into the quarter panel, trunk lid (dunno how that happened) and it's just starting at the bottom/front of the doors. Thanks NYS.
-Driver's door and trunk lock cylinders don't work. The locks work if you use the passenger door. It's either a linkage or the ZKE module.
-Driver and passenger windows don't work; seem to be shorted somewhere (continuously blow the fuse), I think it's the ZKE module.
-There is a small coolant leak at the top of the expansion tank. I think the brass bleeder screw has partially stripped the expansion tank threads. (It tightens but if you tighten too much it jumps a thread) It hasn't over heated in the year or so it's been doing this. I just take coolant around with me and top it off as I need. If you are just parting the car or pulling the engine, it's not a big deal. Otherwise, you probably need a new expansion tank.
-Driver's seat leather has a small tear in the seat and a pretty big tear on the bolster in the usual place.
-Trunk- the carpet is off of the strut towers because I had one crack on me a couple years ago. It was welded and reinforced (and I have the reinforcement on the other side too now) but I left the carpet out so I can keep an eye on them. Currently the plastic covers are off of the lighting/wiring as well because I was tracing the wiring looking for shorts (trunk harness stuff).
-Car hasn't been driven much the past couple of weeks, rotors are old and rusting. I am driving it from time to time, but not enough. Rotors were getting low anyway and should be replaced.
Other stuff:
-Fogs are out but I have them. Got sick of replacing them. Can't remember, but one either has a broken tab on the fog light, or on the bracket in the bumper
-Still have the US headlights and stock radio (no code though)
-I have a set of DS2s with snows on them, the wheels are the stock staggered set, the tires are 225 square, but the rears are pretty worn.
