It seems that when I get into a project the stuff breeds. What I mean is that I ran FI E21's up till now and with the '79 being carbed I also picked up an old Dodge RV '77 with a carb as well. The carb on the Dodge is pretty easy, the Solex... eh. The issue is the PO replaced the electric choke with a manual and I'd like to go back to the original setup with the electric choke.
Do the Mercedes Solex setups run a similar electric choke? They look like they are compatible with the BMW one. Anyone have experience in this? My ultimate wish should I hit some great $$$ windfall is to do the 2.7eta conversion and install triple dual Weber side drafts. For now I'll be happy either sorting out the carb as-is or getting back into more original condition. When I run her at highway speeds I am definitely running rich. I mean the kind of rich where my eyes start to water from vapor. No kidding here. I'm betting it's related to this poor choke setup and the carb in general.
Been to RealOEM, Mobile Traditions and similar. Any advice or ribbing or both is welcome.
Thanks!
