E36 1998 BMW 328i e36 Manual, Sedan - Boston Green over Sand Beige - well-maintained

Hi everyone -

For sale is my 1998 BMW 328i manual transmission sedan that has been properly maintained all its life, by adults. The previous owner and I have used mostly genuine BMW parts to keep it maintained to the highest standard. The car is my daily driver and my family frequently rides in it, so no shortcuts have been taken.

The car does get driven so please keep that in mind - it does not sit in the garage and get stared at. I am not going to say "it's a 17 year old car, so don't expect perfection". While that's true, there's a lot of room for interpretation there so let me give you the facts.

Clean title in hand
1998 was the last year of the e36 model line
5-speed manual transmission
Boston Green Metallic
Sand Beige leather interior
No aftermarket modifications
1 owner until 208,000 miles -- I have owned it since 2009 and it currently has 242,xxx miles
Maintenance records back to day 1, including the original window sticker
Maintained at BMW dealers or BMW-specific independent shops
Majority of replacement parts were purchased from the BMW factory (i.e. not just OEM)

The above reasons were why I purchased the car. I never ran a CarFax on it because of the age of the car and the previous owner told me some panels were repainted due to minor low speed impacts. That did not bother me as the title was/is clean, car was/is straight, and my goal was to develop a solid, great handling, enjoyable and reliable daily driver and the car has been impeccable -- goal achieved. The 6 cylinder inline engine pulls strong and the car handles extremely well with all the factory M3 parts installed (see below).

The car is driven year-round, so it is starting to show surface rust on non-structural points, like the bottom of the doors. This is unfortunately common with many BMWs. The hood was repainted last fall to address peeling clear coat and the roof has touch up spots done by the previous owner. The interior is in good shape and the driver's seat has a small tear. Some seams in the upper rear seat back are starting to separate. The car does clean up well as the pictures indicate.

Parts replaced under my ownership, mostly as preventative maintenance:

- Complete suspension was replaced with factory BMW parts from a M3 (shocks, struts, springs, rear sway bar)
- All suspension bushings were replaced with factory BMW parts - either e36 or e46 M3 parts were used where possible
- Front control arms were replaced with factory BMW parts -- the whole arm, not just the ball joint
- Intermediate steering shaft was replaced with a brand new BMW part -- how often do others do this?
- Front tie rods and ends, along with the power steering reservoir
- Rear lower control arm, ball joints (all 4 of them with M3 parts), rear trailing arm bushings with factory M3 parts
- Oil pan gasket replaced with a factory BMW one
- Entire cooling system was replaced -- radiator, hoses, water pump, thermostat, overflow reservoir, front auxiliary fan, etc.
- Cooling fan clutch and fan blades replaced with factory BMW parts -- the fan is a Euro Diesel BMW fan that is more durable and pushes more air
- Rear brake calipers were completely rebuilt by Goldline Brakes in California
- Brake rotors replaced with factory parts -- pads are Mintex
- ENTIRE driveshaft (giubo, center support bearing, drive shaft) was replaced with a factory BMW part - $$$
- Front wheel hubs and bearings replaced, as were the rear wheel bearings
- Oil pickup tube replaced with a new factory BMW piece that was built for the Z3 since it is reinforced (i.e. stronger) by the factory
- Motor and transmission mounts replaced with factory BMW parts
- Entire Air Conditioning system was refreshed with new o-rings, a low mileage factory A/C compressor from Turner Motorsports, drier, etc. The system was properly vacuumed and recharged with straight R-134a (no sealers were used -- never)
- HVAC blower resistor
- Valve cover gasket and spark plugs
- All fluids
- ABS and Air Conditioner relays

- Alternator, windshield and numerous parts replaced by the previous owner

Reinforced parts of the car:
- While the oil pan was removed to replace the oil pan gasket, I had the mechanic replace the oil pump nut with one that is safety-wired; this addresses a weak point of this otherwise bulletproof motor
- Oil pickup tube -- see above section
- Front sub-frame motor mount pickup points have reinforcement plates
- Rear trailing arm chassis mounting points have reinforcement places welded in
- Reinforcing "limiter" plates installed with the rear trailing arm bushings to restrict their movement -- stabilizes the rear suspension in turns
- Front strut towers have factory BMW M3 reinforcement plates
- Rear shock mounting points have reinforcement plates

Asking price of $3600 with the stock wheels and tires (not used since 2011) or $3950 with the lightweight 16 inch BBS RK wheels and Bridgestone RE-760 tires which are currently on the car. The BBS RK wheels are no longer made in the 16 inch size (everyone wants bigger wheels -- not me) and are extremely lightweight and rare.
