Newb with an AC question

First of all great site. Lots of great information here and most seem willing to jump in to assist when needed.

I have a 1998 328i sedan with 100k, car is in great shape and works well with the exception of the wonky ac.

I have pulled vacuum on the system and put in the 1.82 lbs of 132a. Jumpered the compressor to make sure it worked belts are new.

Now the problem AC works when it wants to.

Driving home 85 deg day, black car no ac, when pulled from a stop and then there it is ac, cold like it should. Then just before home off again.

The temp sensor in the Drivers air duct is there but I get no outside temp on my 11 button computer thing.

Does anybody have a good jumping off point for me to look into?
