Clock - how to set. 1997 BMW E38 MID radio not navigation

I can not seem to set the clock.
I push the clock button twice.
It goes to clock set mode.

It shows 12:00 am
It shows the Hour and Minute up/down buttons and the set button.

I hold the set button..:help

BUT pressing any of them does NOTHING.

What is the secret??
