Hi,
I just purchased an E36 M3 track toy not too long ago. I noticed an odd noise at low rpm around 1k-2k. I know I should not be in that RPM range, but I want to find out what is going on.
This noise does not happen in idle or when I rev it up in neutral. It only happens when there is load around 1k-2k (especially uphill). I attached the video for you guys to listen. You can really hear it around 20 seconds in.
Is it just gear noise I can hear through the car since I am lugging the engine (gear slapping back and forth)? Maybe something is loose below? If something is loose below, wouldn't it make the same noise when I rev it up in neutral? The car has aluminum flywheel with M5 clutch, most of bolt ons except cams, poly motor and transmission mounts, aluminum subframe bushings for rear, and some other poly bushings. According to the previous owner, vanos has been rebuilt already. Thoughts?
