lowering springs and shocks

hello all, my 91 325i needs new shocks and i was thinking about making the ride a little lower, I've read around a little and people say its best to do the shocks and springs to make the ride stable, but does anyone recommend a specific brand? my friend got koni lowering springs on his 87 eta but i was looking for a second opinion, thanks for the help
