Out with the old and in with the new (and Factory Ipod Question)

Ok, so it's been a while since I've been on the board. Basically, through 12vElectronics I was able to put an incredible audio setup in my old Z3 that I've been thrilled with for years

Eclipse CD7100 head unit, Hybrid Audio L6s & L1Pro two way system, etc. The car has ben my daily driver for almost 9 years and it has been a pure joy!

Alas, the time has come that I need to grow up (I'm 48). I need a car that I can get my whole family in and that a client can get in comfortably. So, at 180,000 thoroughly enjoyed miles, the Z3 is being sold and I have purchased this:

It's a 2007 335i with about 50,000 miles and all the options except iDrive. It does have a Logic 7 audio system with the factory iPod cable in the glove box. Which leads me to my question:

When I attach my generation 3 ipod nano to the cable, it will charge the ipod, but it won't take control of it. The "BMW - Do not disconnect" screen never comes up and when I set the stereo to CDC (as indicated in the manual) it says no magazine, as though it's looking for the CD changer (this car doesn't have the CD changer). So, basically, it's charging the ipod, but it's not recognizing it or controlling it.

I've done several searches and come across the different options (6FL, etc.) but haven't seen anything discussing this problem or with a solution to it. Has anyone run into this issue and found a solution? I've tried it with 2 different iPods (2nd & 3rd Gen.) and both act the same. I've checked firmware on both and both have the latest (1.1 or later as the manual indicates).

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
