Edit: Well, looks like my intro post was marked for approval - so you'll have to ignore the strange reference below until that shows up!
Hey everyone! First question after my intro.
Problem of the day, inop air conditioning. It hasn't worked in years, and didn't when I got the car due to no refrigerant in the system.
Background (for those that want to skip)
I worked with a good friend to troubleshoot, so we did some charging with R12 and found out it'll still make cold air! A leak detector told us pretty quickly that the refrigerant wouldn't stay in the system and the condenser was leaking.
So, I took it to a local radiator shop and they told me it had about half a dozen leaks in the tubing, and wasn't worth repairing. They'd also never seen that kind of failure! My only guess is that someone tried at some point to stick an auto-parts-store can of R134A on the system 'until it blew cold' and ran the pressure way too high...
I've managed to find probably the one remaining condenser in the US on Ebay (and it's not OEM) so I'm going to chance it. I worked my BMW dealer down to about $360 but they still have to get it from Germany, and I don't want to wait that long given the current heatwave in the Pacific Northwest.
The actual question
Now that I've given you the saga, I can't find any reference to the o-rings sizes that go in the condenser fittings. I'm also going to pick up a filter dryer so those will need replacing too. Can any one say definitively which o ring sizes I'll need?
This page on bmwfans.info has the gasket callouts (#10) but I'm hoping that someone knows which sizes I should order!
Thanks all. I can't wait to have a car that's comfortable in the summer AND winter!
