1995 BMW 540i factory 6 speed for sale: $4800
Ill get pics up during the weekend.
This car has been my trusty daily driver for over 100k, she now has 230k and has is driven 200 highway miles daily, I would drive this car anywhere. I bought the 540i for what it is, a fast comfortable highway cruiser with good performance capable of surviving a major collision if needed. I drive this car fast but sympathetically and she has never been brutalized under my ownership.
Ive maintained this car proactively for high reliability though I havent been as obsessive about paintwork chips since that would defeat the purpose of a daily driver. Other than some minor paintwork this car needs nothing, and I mean nothing. Ive described the car honestly below and will be happy to answer any questions directly. Other than the description below Ill call out what doesnt work at the moment:
Why Im selling this car, well I have 4 BMWs and 4 other cars, Im getting too old to keep them all up to my standards and my wife and kids want more of my time, Ive decided to sell them all and focus on just 1 or 2.
Body is good, this is a NE car so Ill start here. The black paint has suffered the slings and arrows of 200k+ of highway driving and has stone chips, a ding in the trunk by the number plate where I got rear ended on the Merritt Parkway (aka Death Race 2015). The drivers door bottom has some minor bubbling but isnt serious and will clean up (according to Mike the bodyshop) but will need a new lower door trim. The front grill panel has a minor dent, and the hood needs its been there since I bought the car though I have a new factory panel ready for paint I might get this done before sale. The roof has a very small dimple where a tree fell on it (again on the Merritt) this was a glancing blow that destroyed the car behind me Mike says paintless dent can pull it easily. No other body damage or dents, windshield is new. Other than that there isnt any major rust since I pressure wash and waxoyl treat the underside prior to and during winter, no clearcoat breaks and the paintwork does shine up well.
Interior is excellent in Afrika Korp sand color, everything works, stock radio with 6 CD player installed. No missing dash pixels. The drivers seat has some minor scuffing on the left backrest bolster and the front passenger seat needs the twist fix, has nice expensive BMW mats and the heated sports seats function as they should.
Engine runs perfectly with no rattles, knocks or strange noises (even at startup on cold days) and pulls like a train. Due to my high daily mileage I oil change monthly with Mobil 1 0w40 and new Mann filter, coolant is correct blue BMW stuff and the engine does not use or lose any oil or coolant. Valley pan gasket, intake rebuilt, water pump and radiator were replaced 80k ago. I replaced the timing chain tensioner when I bought the car not because the chain rattled but because Im obsessive, the oil pump has been thread locked for the same reason.
Driveline is tight and shifts good (2nd gear is notchy as normal when cold during winter) with new clutch pack, guibo, center driveshaft bearing and rear coupling all replaced 60k ago, since my drive is all highway none of these components are showing any sign of wear, ASC works perfectly.
Running gear is all new front & rear with less than 20k miles on it. I replaced all suspension components and steering gear during the winter with new H&Rs and Bilstein Sports, everything else is Meyle HD or Lemforder. The car runs very tight with no rattles or shimmy. The front end has new hubs and new brakes with less than 2k miles ago. Wheels are stock baskets with good Toyo all weathers.
There's a lot of stuff that isn't included in the brief descriptions above, new fuel pump, new alloy throttle bushings....the list goes on. But I'll keep it brief for the moment.

- The fuel gauge bulb is out, planned for the next service cycle.
- AC needs a new auxiliary fan.
