Hello all, posted this on another forum and still looking for answers,
My 17 year old son just bought himself a 2003 BMW 330i. It's a beautiful car with only 145k kms on it. In some ways I now have a bimmer as I am the one who will have to teach him how to maintain it. Lol.
Anyway, after only a week of owning the car he tells me he just got a transmission warning light. It is acting a bit strange and was hoping for some help to troubleshoot. When he starts it if he leaves it in park this warning light comes on. When you drive the car it seems fine then downshifts rather harshly. It jerks as it does so. I don't believe it is in limp mod as it still has normal power. Also, once the light comes on the car makes a bit of a different noise, a humming, almost as if a fan turned on.
If you start the car and put it in drive right away the light does not come on and the car/transmission seems to run perfect.
Hoping someone has some experience or ideas to tackle this. We are booked to take it in to our local dealership but I'd love to save him the trouble and money.
