Wheel alignment question

I am about to get a new to me (used) set of wheels/tires and my current tires are worn pretty badly only on the inside edges of all 4 tires (I will try to get some pics soon). My question is, is this the typical wear pattern for E39s based on the sport suspension setup/handling such that if I take it to the dealer for alignment they are going to take my money and tell me everything is ok, or would it be recommended to get the alignment done once I put on the new wheels/tires? I do know that my current tires are a 1/4" shorter in diameter than OEM sizes (225/40/18 vs. 235/45/17), but I can't imagine that would cause this much variation in tire wear.
