I hate it when the mechanic says: "I've never seen this before..."
Long story short, discovered the drivers side rear lower control arm broke just after the bushing next to the wheel. I believe it is the original part. So I have two questions:
1. Is this really a rare part failure like the mechanic seems to think?
2. What would cause this to fail to begin with, barring any accidents (which the car has not suffered)? I am thinking maybe one or more of the following: bad struts, bad springs, wheel out of balance....all adding up to increased vibration and then part failure? Of course, I didnt have any increased vibration leading up to this....
If anyone has had this happen and knows what the root cause may be, please chime in!

Oh yeah, one more data point, the rear suspension is completely stock, nothing aftermarket.
