I recently purchased a 98 Z3 in great shape...but this week the convertible motor started making a sound like it was "working really hard" to close the top. I don't know how else to explain it. It quickly deteriorated and now the motor struggles to close the top even about a foot... I have to get out and manually pull the top up to close it. And if I open it up, the top flops open really quickly - like it falls open.
I sure hope I'm explaining this clearly.
I'm assuming this is a problem with the convertible motor, maybe hydrolic fluid loss? I don't do a lot of work on my own cars but wanted to get input from you guys. Also, where exactly is the motor located? Assuming access to it would be through the trunk area? Is this something I could work on or is this something that needs a mechanic?
Thanks!
