1998 528i automatic driveshaft CV joint: REBUILD or REPLACE?

I'm wrestling with this right now. Sometime this summer, I will be redoing the transmission output seal. Since I have to take off the driveshaft to do this, I thought I would do the DS trifecta of Giubo, Center Support Bearing, and a visit to the CV joint in front of the Differential.

While crawling around under the car doing various things such as diffy fluid change, I noticed the black 'ring around the collar' above and to the sides of the Driveshaft CV joint. When I have the windows open and I'm driving next to a wall, or through an underpass, I can hear a clicking as well.

SHould I just repack the CV joint with grease, pop on new nuts, gasket and dust cover, and call it a day. Or, should I replace the CV joint completely? Both would entail the same amount of work, but the CV joint would cost about CAD $300. If I'm just going to overhaul the CV joint, how would I be able to recognize that I should really be replacing it? ie damage that would affect the performance of the joint. I've read a number of DIYs, watched videos (including BMTroubleU) and I'm still uncertain. If I replace it - then there are no issues unless the clicking turns out to be from the passenger side axle (I hear the clicking as if it's from that side but that just may be because that is the side where the sound is echoing back at me).

If I just overhaul the CV joint, would it be obvious to me (never having seen the inside of one before) if it is "bad" or not?

Looking for suggestions and comments from the solid wrenchers on this forum. Cheers.

p.s. the car has about 115K miles on the clock.
