I have searched around the forums but haven't found much help on this topic, mostly advice on muffler deletes, which is the opposite of what I'm trying to do.
I just purchased a 2001 M5. The previous owner did a muffler delete. I want a muffler because I don't want to draw much attention to myself, and it is necessary to pass inspection in NY. I really don't want to cheap out on this vehicle, but I want to save money where possible. This has led me to search for used mufflers and exhaust on ebay.
It looks like I can get a replacement OEM on ebay for around $500. I thought of waiting to find a parts car to scavenge, but I need a muffler soon to pass inspection. What are my options for replacing it? Is a Dinan or Magnaflow exhaust really necessary?
What are the downsides of the cheap OEM exhaust?
This is the first of many questions, I hope you all can provide some input. This car has become a new hobby for me, and I have much to learn.
