e46 coolant reservoir not connecting properly to base

Please help. I have searched this forum and others but have not found a solution.

I have a 2001 330i with 180k miles. It was leaking coolant so I overhauled the cooling system a couple weeks ago: all hoses, reservoir, water pump, radiator, thermostat. Everything was fine at first. But then I noticed I was still leaking fluid. I got under the car and it is definitely coming from where the reservoir connects with the base (mounting plate I have seen it called in some threads). Specifically, the smaller of the two circles is where the leak is coming from. I can even pull down on it to make it leak out. I suspect that as the coolant heats up and expands, enough pressure builds to cause the base to separate slightly from the reservoir and leak. This leads me to believe that it is not properly clicked in. I have tried pushing down from the top but to no avail. I tried applying pressure from the bottom using a jack while pushing from the top but that did not work either. Is there some trick to properly connecting this thing?

The mounting plate is the only part I didn't replace simply because it didn't come with the coolant system overhaul kit I got from BavAuto. Could that be my problem?

Thank you in advance for any advice & help.
Alex
