540i after 6spd swap--can't fully bleed clutch?

Having all finished the swap, sorted the engine timing issue, replaced the dead starter, I'm trying to deal with the last hurdle before I can actually drive this thing.

I can't fully bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Symptoms: can't engage reverse while stationary and engine on. First is very difficult, easier if moving at a crawl (as engine speed matches road speed in that gear). Second is easier, third and higher are fine. No rollback if on an incline with clutch pedal pressed. Repeated pressing while in neutral makes next shift easier.

My diagnosis is that I've got air somewhere in my system. Keep in mind, everything was installed dry. Brand new flywheel, clutch, clutch line, reservoir-master line, slave cylinder, throwout bearing, pressure plate, clutch fork spring and pivot pin. Master came with pedals, was guaranteed working. CDV never installed

I've bled the clutch using three methods: the regular 2-person press on pedal while valve opened (10 reps, then 15 seconds pressed), power bleeder, and 2-person with my replica of the special tool that holds the slave compressed.

Each time, I get very close--no air comes out, but I still can't fully disengage clutch--see symptoms above.

Is there some kind of super-secret procedure I'm missing, or am I doing this wrong? Have an appointment at a reputable indy thursday to attempt it again, would like to do it myself if possible!
